Land tenure methods have implications for each adaptation and mitigation, which need to be understood within specific socio-economic and legal contexts, and should themselves be impacted by local weather change and climate motion . Land policy can provide routes to land safety and facilitate or constrain local weather motion, throughout cropping, rangeland, forest, freshwater ecosystems and other systems. Large-scale land acquisitions are an essential context for the relations between tenure safety and climate change, but their scale, nature and implications are imperfectly understood. There is medium confidence that land titling and recognition programmes, particularly those that authorize and respect indigenous and communal tenure, can lead to improved administration of forests, including for carbon storage. Strong public coordination can combine land coverage with national insurance policies on adaptation and reduce sensitivities to climate change.
